The
impending Justice League Animated series hasn't slowed Hasbro
at all as far as releasing the next wave of Adventures of the
DC Universe figures. With the exception of the Kirby 4th World
figure this line now seems to be following along the same route
of the old Kenner Super Powers line. With what they produced for
custom con last year and the batch this year could we see the
entire Super Powers line remade in the animated style? It's looking
that way so far! What more could a DC fan ask for?
Green
Arrow - Green Arrow is the head, torso and arms of the Super Powers
Green Arrow. The legs are from that squatty Batman Hasbro keeps
giving us. I sanded the details off his hair and made it a flat
surface like on the Bruce Wayne head. I used sculpy and redid
the tops of his arms to take out the detail and make the blockier
like on the Batman figures. The boot cuffs are rubber bands. His
Super Powers action feature still works!
BlackCanary - A simple Poison Ivy repaint. I did do some redesign
on the hair by taking off some of the "swoops." The
jacket is made from an old vinyl banner..
Hawkman - Here's the top half of that squatty Batman. Hawkman
uses the head, torso and arms from that Batman. The helmet, wings
and legs are from the Super Powers Hawkman. The chest straps are
rubber bands. I sill need to paint a chest emblem on the straps.
CaptainMarvel
/ Shazam - The Big Red Cheese was the Animated X-ray Superman.
I pulled off the throwing arm and replaced it with a regular Superman
arm (which are actually 2 different sizes). The arm cuffs are
sculpy and the sash is a rubber band. The cape is from the first
DC Direct Captain Marvel.
Red
Tornado - Red Tornado is a Knightwing body, the JLA Red Tornado
head and cape. Glove cuffs are vinyl and sculpy and the boot cuffs
are a rubber band.
Firestorm - Is a Ninja Robin base. I put sculpy on his arms to
make them look blockier and have puffy sleeves. His hair is also
sculpy. His smock is more of that vinyl banner.
Atom - is the Batman from the Batman Animated Series Happy Meal
toys many moons ago. I'm not totally happy with that head (I really
tried shaving off some of that jaw!) But it will do until I find
a better head in scale..
Flash II - is the first clear blue Animated Batman Beyond figure.
The ear cups are sculpy and wire. All of the silver stuff is sculpy.
Aquaman II - I know what you are thinking... "Didn't Julius
submit this figure in LAST years Custom con?" Nope. That
wasn't mine; it was my buddy General Zod's. But I stole/borrowed
his recipe and made my own with some tweaking. The body, upper
arms and legs are a Detective Batman, the lower arms and head
are from the Jack In the Box kids meal toy swimming Aquaman figure.
His armor is sculpy on the arm and rubber bands on the chest.
Martian Manhunter - Again another figure you may remember from
last year from Zod's entries that I have made for my own shelf
now. Manhunter uses a Superman body, a Lex Luthor head, with a
sculpy brow, the chest straps and boot cuffs are rubber bands.
Cheetah - Cheetah was an Animated Catwoman. Sculpy ears, and her
tail is one of the twist ties Hasbro uses to hold things in the
packaging.
Classic Robin- a simple repaint with a new sculpy hairdo.
Fire Fly - Was one of the many Crime Squad Batman figures, like
a paratrooper one or something. His head is sculpy, his backpack
is from the Quick Change Superman, and his hands are from a Creeper
figure. His wings are cardboard, the gun is from one of the Zyber
9 figures, and the tube is from one of the twist ties that strap
the 12" Dewback to the box.
