Just
as Toybiz seemed to have been knocked out of the Capcom merchandising
game by news of the video game company's major licenses going
to Resaurus and Palisades Marketing, they've managed to bounce
back with a super-combo that fans will love.
In
a display that took everyone completely by surprise, Toybiz
showed off their new line based on the hit 2D mega-fighter:
Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes.
Like
the previous Capcom toys from Toybiz, the figures will come
in 2 packs, each featuring a Toybiz re-issue of an older Marvel
figure, and a brand new Capcom figure.
"It's
just such a natural combination to do", says the Toybiz's product
developer Darren Chia. But what about the news about the Capcom
licenses being taken out of Toybiz's hands? "Oh, we managed
to get around that", winks Chia. "After all, we own Marvel.
Once we showed our trump card we worked out something that pleased
everyone."
Every
Toybiz assortment needs a Wolverine. This time round he comes
with Jill Valentine from Resident Evil. Jill features a new
anime styled head to match her 2D version, and a zombie bodyguard
and dog.
Cable,
the new addition to the Marvel rollcall in the game, comes with
the giant Capcom cactus Amingo. A small cactus buddy is also
included.
It's
a battle of metal against metal as the despot in the iron mask,
Dr Doom, faces off against the mistress of robots Tron Bonne
and her Servbot, of Megaman Legends fame.
It's
the USA vs USSR all over again as the Russian mutant Colossus
goes head to head with the all-American Street Fighter Guile,
who comes with removeable dogtags.
But
will this line mark the swansong for Toybiz's Capcom properties?
"That's in the hands of fans", says Chia. "There's still so
much we can add to this line with characters like Ruby Heart,
Sonson, Marrow, Spiral, Thanos...personally I'd really like
to see a Silver Samurai vs Hayato (Star Gladiator) 2 pack!"
