On
the way for 2001 are 2 collector boxed sets based
on Spider-man and his related villains.
The
line uses the Famous Covers bodies, but will be marketed
under the Spider-man title as commemorative sets.
The
first set is inspired by the early Spider-man stories.

Dr
Octopus comes in his original doctor's garb, and features a
brand new "fat" type of body (type 4?) as well as 4 extra bendable
mechanical arms. At first glance Spider-man looked like a typical
re-issue of the same one from the Spider-man vs Electro Famous
Covers 2 pack, but upon closer inspection revealed a nice surprise.
Spider-man
features a John Romita Sr inspired head under his mask, which
has also been altered for a better fit with more "classic" looking
eyepieces. The "oven mitts" are gone in favour of exposed fists,
and his right hand is a new sculpt featuring Spidey's signature
web-shooting pose.
The
second 2 pack will feature the black costume Spider-man vs Venom
inspired by Amazing Spider-man #299-301. The black Spider-man
is a re-issue of the one from the Spider-man/Spider-woman 2
pack, but Venom is a completely new figure, featuring chomping
jaw articulation and a bendable tongue.
A
Ghost Rider 9" doll was also on display, but no details were
given. Rumours were circulating the convention about it being
a Halloween 2001 store exclusive. Here's hoping it will come
with a scale bike.
