Custom Recipes:
Belts and pouches: Made from elastic bought at fine fabric
stores everywhere. A snap was sewn on to the elastic. The elastic
was colored with pens. The pouches were made from the same
elastic then sewn into place on the belt with gold strands
from a curtain tassel. Legion symbol was printed from a CAD
program and glued to the belt.
Paint: All figures were primed with Krylon gray primer. Areas
to be finished in bright colors were then primed again with
white primer. Acrylics were used and the figures sealed with
Dulcote. For shiny finishes, decoupage glue was used as a sealer.
Atmos: I know what you’re thinking.
How can a sentient humanoid not have arm pits? That’s
a question I’ve pondered many times, especially when
I decided to make this figure. The body came from a Cloak figure
and the head and arms came from one of the cheap KB Ice Man
reissues. The Mohawk is courtesy of kneadatite as are his bracers
and collar. The invisibility disease was simulated by dremelling
big holes in his sides and filling with clay as necessary.
Insect Queen: This
was another fun figure to do. I decided to go with her Silver
Age look for some reason. The base is an Alpha Flight Vindicator.
The head is from an Alpha Flight Aurora. The hair is kneadatite
and the mask was cut from some acrylic paint that I let cure
overnight. I drew her chest emblem on by hand. Her torso and
legs are held together with a snap joint so that I could make
the torso interchangeable with any insect torso I wanted to
create. Her bee torso was made by using the armor parts of
the Spider Force (?) Swarm figure and a bit of kneadatite to
hold it all together. Her wings came from the Brood figure
that I used for my earlier Gates figure.
Atom’x: The base for this figure was
a Sunfire from the X-Men six pack. The head is a cast of a
Jurassic Park figure.
The Biker Shorts or Bald Guy: Not much to
this one other than sanding off Morph’s details. The
head is from an X-men Gideon figure I believe.
Konk: Konk is a modified Flying Missiles
Shard figure. The head is removable and encased in the plastic
orb that came with the Dr. Strange figure from the Spider-man
Animated Series line. |
