Annex: Give yourself points if you actually know
who he is. Give yourself more points if you share my view that
he's an underused character with a lot of potential, and not "that
Iron Man wanna-be introduced in Spider-Man." The base
figure was actually very close to Annex, so this custom wasn't
too difficult, and I think it turned out fairly well. To my
knowledge, I'm the only one who's actually made an Annex figure,
and I'm not entirely sure if that's good or bad.
Originally a Captain Commando, I added a Captain Terror (Speed
Racer) head, with the head scope from War Machine to finish
the job. His gun was from Cable 3, and his jet pack came from
a Robocop Alpha Command figure. It still has the swing-wing
feature. :)
Constrictor: Another character I absolutely had
to have, I sat down one day and hammered him out while watching
Biker Mice From Mars videos. Funny how the mind remembers things
like that...
The assassin with the adamantium coils was a cheap dollar-store
ninja figure, with a George Clooney Batman head, and tentacles
from Omega Red. On a side note, Clooney's Batman figures have
that trademark smirk captured beautifully, and with a simple
ear trim, work well for just about any cowled character who
needs that look (see my Living Laser custom).
Cyber: Why in the name of Stan Lee has this guy never had
a figure? He was easily one of the most important X-Villains
who never got a toy. Heck, he's the only man Wolverine has
ever admitted to being afraid of! Honestly, I still refuse
to believe he's dead... Do we honestly believe that a guy like
Cyber can be killed by a psychopath ripping off his skin? I
highly doubt it... and I, for one, would love to see his comeback
bout.
Ninja Sabretooth used to have Cyber's legs and torso, Omega
used to have his head, and those massive arms used to belong
to Battle Brigade Colossus.
Power Man: Yes, I know he's been done before, but that one
just didn't work for me, so I did what any good customizer
does in those cases: I made my own. He looks great standing
next to Iron Fist (who I never made a custom of because I did
like his figure). This figure nicely shows off his late- 90's
Heroes For Hire costume.
More of an amalgamation than many of my other customs, Power
Man's legs used to belong to Apocalypse (Age of Apocalypse
version), His torso is Venom's (Marvel vs Capcom, I believe,
although I know the mold was used about a dozen times), his
arms were Quark's (X-Force), and the head used to be Falcon's
(Avengers animated line). The chain belt was from a Ninja Wolverine
accessory.
Taskmaster: I blame this one on overconfidence and impatience.
After reading the Taskmaster mini, I HAD to have figure of
his new costume. Realizing that it would likely be years before
Toy Biz got around to it, I poked around the fodder box to
see what I could find. What I came up with is much more armored
than the actual suit, but most of the right highlights are
there. He's still a little short, but it's something I can
live with.
Taskmaster was a really funky Wolverine figure. I lopped off
his hands and replaced them with ones from an Ambush Shadow
figure (Kenner). His head is greatly modified from Dreadknight,
and crowned with a hood from a Star Wars robe. his weapons
are Ambush Shadow's pistol, Ninja Psylocke's sword, and the
energy shield is a disk from Beast Machines Nightscream.
Toad: I'll admit this customs nothing special but... WHAT
THE HECK IS THAT MARVEL LEGENDS THING ALL ABOUT?!?! Honestly,
we finally get a Toad figure, and it turns out he's more in
scale to Famous Covers than any other line we've ever seen
from Toy Biz! I'd never be able to forgive myself if I added
that oversized crud to my collection, so I made my own. At
some point, I'll likely make a better one, but for the moment,
this one looks pretty good cowering behind Magneto.
Toad is a Tarzan figure (from the Trendmasters line), with
a head from Bob (Reboot). |
