The Legion of Superheroes, for those of you that don’t
know, is DC’s superhero team from 1000 years into the
future. A simplistic view of the Legion might say it is comprised
young adults with special abilities from different planets
banding together to try to keep the future safe. Then again
nothing with The Legion is ever simple so I won’t get
into terms like pre-boot and post-boot (darn that Zero Hour
storyline)…
Wednesday – The Legion Elemental/Caster Squad
Welcome to the third day of Legion figures. On the previous
days, you saw the team members who could move a planet and
keep that planet’s movement a secret. Today I present
you with the elemental/caster squad. They are capable of … I
don’t know, keeping the
planet warm I guess.
Cosmic Boy: The Legion representative from the planet Braal.
Cosmic boy controls magnetic fields (and I’m sure he
was around before Magneto). Cosmic boy is a founding member
of The Legion and is often referred to as the heart and soul
of the team.
Element Lad: Who better to be in the elemental part of The
Legion than Element Lad? Jan Arrah from the planet Trom has
the special power of element transmutation.
Inferno: Her Legion status has always been somewhat ambiguous,
but every time you see her she has the belt and flight ring
so I guess she’s in. That being said, she’s also
stuck in the 20th century by her own choice. Apparently she
really likes the shopping. Anyway, she has firepowers and now
an action figure likeness.
Kid Quantum: Jazmin’s powers are somewhat ambiguous.
Appparently she has the ability to control quantum fields.
What that means is beyond my understanding and I’m not
going back to school to find out. Here’s an action figure
that bares some resemblance to the hero though.
Livewire: I guess every team has their hard luck case, well
here’s The Legion’s. Garth Ranzz from the planet
Winath acquired lightning powers when he and his siblings scared
some lightning beasts. It’s
been kinda down hill ever since for Garth. He lost his right
arm in a battle with his crazy brother, Mekt. He was forced
to quit The Legion in disgrace only to be reinstated in time
to “sacrifice” his
life to save two universes. Don’t blink though because
he could be on the comeback trail. Garth’s figure comes
with a removable, robotic arm.
Spark: Ayla Ranzz, sister of Livewire, also acquired lightning
powers the same time Garth did. I guess her time in The Legion
could best be described as, with apologies to Douglas Adams,
mostly harmless.
Star Boy: Not quite an energy caster or element guy, but he
had to go somewhere. Thom Kallor from Xanthu has the ability
to add or subtract mass from objects.
Umbra: Tasmia Mallor from Talok VIII has the ability to create
and control dark fields. She’s also the planets champion
warrior and pretty moody sometimes. Hopes were high that her
own action figure would raise her spirits.
Wildfire: Drake Burroughs from... well let’s just say
this one is a little complicated. Suffice to say he’s
two merged consciences rolled into one Kwai armament or containment
suit. Let’s just say
he has super fire/energy powers, a hot head, and his own action
figure.
