I couldn't find a decent base with the
a stance or proportions I wanted for my WW so I built
her mostly from scratch. However, my methods of making
figures from scratch differ greatly from others. I created
a wire armature using aluminum wires and rough out the
body using Promat or epoxy depending on my mood ....
I used Promat for WW because I ran out of epoxy. After
curing it in the oven, I used a dremel to carve out
holes that will will accomodate the future joints. I
then add a thin layer of superglue to the surrounding
area to strengthen it. After the glue dries, I insert
and glued the joints into place using superglue. Most
of the joints that I've made from scratch becomes loose
after a month or 2 of rigorous play so I decided to
cannibalize an existing joint. As to why I added the
knee joint, well I saw a picture of her flying in one
of the ADCU book and wanted mine to be able to have
that pose. After the joints are in place, I add Promat
and smooth out the details. Everything on this figure
is sculpted it rather than paint on. The stars on her
bikini and the different layers on her chest armor are
sculpted on.
Flash was made from TNBA Nightwing. I added sculpey
to chest to increase the slope of his pectorals. I also
added sculpey to increase he slope of his trapezius
and created a new neckline. The insignia was made from
Photoshop and glued to his chest. I shaved down his
deltoids and rounded it out with sculpey The legs and
head were made from scratch. I used a sewing pin for
the wing thingie on his ears.
Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern: John
Stewart
The designs for my MM was based on pictures
in Adventures in the DCU #13. I made him roughly 6 mm
taller than Superman giving him a scale size of 7'0".
The arms are from Quick Change Superman. I shaved off
part of the shoulder and added sculpey to remove some
of the musculature. The torso and waist came from a
Capture Net Sup. I added 3 mm of sculpey to the bottom
to increase his torso length. I also gave him different
pecs and removed the excess musculature. The legs and
head were sculpted from scratch. The cape was made from
a Detective Batman cape with some trimming. The collar
was a piece of warmed and bent into shape.
Green Lantern actually came together out of the odds
and ends box. I had a Dragon Ball Z body that I knew
I wanted to use for an animated figure but didn't know
who.I also had a spare head. One day while trying to
get inspiration I noticed how with a few minor alterations
I woud have a Green Lantern.I used sculpy to create
his hair and his chest emblem was a print out. The rest
was just a simple repaint.
Hawkgirl is one I'm still not 100% happy with but she
will do for now until I can get a good head sculpt. Her
body is Princess-Whats-er-Name with wings from a DBZ
figure and her head is from Jack-in-the-Box HAWKMAN
!! Her belt is a strip of vinyl.
