BTAS:
The Rogues
After nearly losing the BTAS/TNBA line due to numerous "Neon
Camouflage Rubber Duck Armor Batman" figures, Hasbro
has decided to revisit the original Batman: The Animated
Series on the eve of its tenth anniversary with a new page
from its rich history. In a move that is sure to please
kids and collectors alike, Hasbro has announced plans to
continue the classic figure line with a new line devoted
entirely to the villains of Gotham City, a line dubbed simply
"The Rogues." The line will add some long-awaited
characters that were never made in the original line. The
most exciting news, however, is the announcement that the
second and third waves of the line will feature several
new figures that never appeared on the animated show, but
that have a significant place in the history of Batman.
Consulting with producers Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, Hasbro
has come up with a classic mix of villains from the comics
and has weaved them into the BTAS universe as if they were
there all along. Of course, it wouldn't be a Batman line
without figures of Batman and Robin, and Hasbro has added
a two-pack featuring a variant of each to the first wave.
These variants, however, unlike previous ones, make perfect
sense and are a welcome addition to the line.
Working
with toy designers Fred
Aczon, and Brad McCurry, Hasbro has assembled a formidable
force to oppose the heroes of Gotham.
Wave
Three - The New Rogues Continue
Tweedledee
and Tweedledum
Deever and Dumfree Tweed, the terrible twins arrive to
assist the Joker and the Mad Hatter. These twisted versions
of
the "Alice in Wonderland" brothers each come
with a cane.
The
Gentleman Ghost
Gentleman Jim Craddock, enemy of both Batman and Hawkman,
arrive sin Gotham City to haunt the Caped Crusader and
Boy
Wonder. Comes with cane and "Floating" top hat.
Clayface
III
Preston Payne was born with a horribly disfiguring disease,
and thought that by injecting himself with some of Matt Hagen's
blood he would be able to change his face to a more attractive
one. Little did he know that the effects would be horribly
different. (Detail-oriented fans will note that in the BTAS
universe, Matt Hagen was actually Clayface I, not II, so Payne
would actually be II. However, at the time of the announcement,
plans were still in effect to produce a figure of Basil Karlo,
the original Clayface. Ironically, in the BTAS version, Karlo
remains a classic horror film actor who later serves as a
mentor to Matt Hagen before he becomes Clayface. While the
figure is still planned, it has been pushed back to a further
date.)
The
Reaper
Judson Caspian was Gotham's original vigilante until the GCPD
forced him into retirement. In the new storyline, the Reaper
comes out of retirement not to challenge Batman, but to kill
the villain that has stolen his look! Watch out Phantasm!
The original scythe-wielding maniac is back! A prototype was
seen earlier, but was reworked by Hasbro to give him a better
hood / cape combo. Comes with two scythes.
The
Red Hood
While "Mask of the Phantasm" and "Beware the
Creeper" pretty much solidified the BTAS Joker as Jack
Napier, Timm and Dini have come up with a unique way that
would also allow the Red Hood to play a part in the Joker's
origin. You'll have to buy the figure to find out how, though!
Comes with pistol and money bags.
