Cliffjumper:
Obviously, Cliffjumper is made from Bumblebee. Despite their apparent
sameness, important differences are present. I dremeled away the
sides of the feet, as Cliffjumper's wheels do not appear in robot
mode. I used Kneadatite to extend the side of his head. I also
used the dremel to expand the side of the rear window on his chest,
and a bit of styrene to create the, uh, what is that a spoiler,
behind it.
Ratchet:
Ratchet is almost a simple repaint of Iron-Hide, but there are
two important changes. I used styrene to create his pointy forehead
things, and I swapped Iron-Hide's gun-holding hand with a spare
Megatron hand. Ratchet doesn't need to be holding a weapon. He's
too busy repairing things.
Skywarp:
A repaint of Starscream. Here's a tip: Don't separate the pieces
and paint them individually. It's very difficult to get them back
together without ruining the paint job.
Thrust
and Ramjet: These boys were a lot of fun to make. First, I had
to do all kinds of research to get their designs right. Turns
out, their details are never quite the same from episode to episode.
That being said, I used the elements I preferred best. The most
obvious change from the Starscream base are their heads. I used
the tip of a tiny model rocket. I cut into the base of the cone
to accommodate the face. To get the face, I had to slice Starscream's
head into pieces, until all that was left was a small bit with
a face on it. I filled the base of the cone with Kneadatite and
applied to face to the opening. Before the Kneadatite dried, I
pushed it over the neck peg, creating a swivel joint. A slightly
less obvious change are the knees. The original trio has big blocks
for knees, while the second trio lacks the blocks, but has the
shin-guard like things on their upper legs. I sliced off the knee
blocks with the dremel, and created the shin-guards with styrene.
Vinyl was used to make the detail on the lower legs. Finally,
the wings were cut from thick styrene. (The rear fins in the case
of Thrust, as well.) Logos (and Thrust's fans) were printed and
decoupaged on.
