interview
with sword and shield productions
Interviewer-how
did a reletivly unknown company get such a major license
and what about mattel owning the license?
S&S-well
as we all know mattel does own the license to "masters
of the universe". Warner brothers produced the movie,
filmation produced the cartoon and well, mattel produced
the merchandise. mattel created "masters of the universe"
and they own the license. they are so tied up with the
barbie license and such that being a relativly unknown
company, we were able to obtain the rights to produce
figures, just as Mcfarlane can make his movie maniacs
etc. sure we dont keep all the profits but this is a
really good start for us.
interviewer-this
is bound to make many fans rejoice. the movie was a
total success between children and fans, but there was
something about it that failed to deliver. why do you
choose to make them?
S&S-being
such a fan in the 80`s we jumped at the chance to produce
these. its so major that it will give us a jump start
but we must really do these great, if we fail to deliver
then it wont be good for us.
interviewer-but
why now, why not 10 years ago?
S&S-well
1 we were not around back then, and 2 thats when mattel
was doing the merchandising.
interviewer-is
there a possibility for a wave two? and what about gwildor?
S&S-oh
definatly. For all of those nostalgia prepared, there
will be plenty of ligit. variants, everyone needs a
"Golden god" Skeletor and a "Chicken shack" Julie. as
you know we already have made a variant. it was produced
specially for mail-away. The throne room lubic. well
there still are plenty of figures needed to be made.
Gwildor being one, after all he was a key(no pun intended)
player. you cant have He-man or lubic without evil-lyn
or the sorceress can you...
interviewer-but
will anyone know where these "variants" are coming from?
S&S-well
if you are going to get the figures, youve seen the
movie and if have seen the movie, well then you know.
interviewer-wha
about classic charicters?
S&S-well
we have spoke to mattel about it and they have mixed
thoughts. after all im not too sure if fans and the
80`s children can really accept a real comeback of such
a show.
interviewer-what
do you mean mattel had "mixed thoughts"?
S&S-well
as He-man was one of their biggest success` ever, they
maybe wanted it to remain known like that. but fans
are claimoring for new ones, so thats where the mixed
thoughts come in. personally id love to make a ram-man
and clawful...
interviewer-will
these figures be mass-released?
S&S-unfortunally,
no. speciallty stores only. i dont think mattel is aiming
for a comeback.
interviewer-well
before i let you go, are there any plans for the future
asside from masters of the universe? ive heard rumors...
S&S-yes
there has been a "factory leak" upon us. we want it
to be a complete secret until the prototypes are unvieled,
and unfortunatly they were not ready for display at
this convention.
interviewer-well
then we must say good luck for you and whatever you
have planned for the future. after all, "you take the
good, you take the bad, you take `em both and there
you have the facts of life." but you wouldent know anything
about that would you...
S&S-damn
those factory workers!
end of interview.
