Superman Villains
Cyborg Superman
The cyborg components were taken from a Mcfarlane Al Simmons
figure. I used a Toybiz Colossus for the fist and partial head.
A reflective red acrylic strip was inserted into the eye to
appear glowing. The cape can be posed to look wind-blown by
a small mechanism placed at the back, enabling the cape to fold
down and up. I studied Chinese checkers.
Darkseid
With this figure, you either love 'em or hate 'em. It looks
like it's either a lineman for a football backer from the 50's
or the new dishwasher guy for Deny's. The head & torso was
from a Marvel Hulk figure, with gloves & boots courtesy
of Darth Vadar. Sculpting was done on the arms, face and helmet
to mimic Kirby's rendering. Of all the great ones up there,
Darkseid truly rules as one of my favorite planet crushers.
Jor-El Bizarro
Sculpting was done on a Ross Bizarro figure, transforming
him to look like Jor-El, but gone mad. His costume was airbrushed
with matte lavender, black and trimmed with silver. The cape
was re-made from a Morbius figure. In creating this character,
I felt that as a storyline, Clark having lost both his fathers,
and Superman encountering Jor-El Bizarro, might develop a surrogate
Father/Son relationship. As mondo-bizarre as it sounds, even
Bizarro should have a dad.
Bizarro
One of my favorite customs. I used a Miller Superman figure,
modifiying the arms and legs to appear Frankensteinish. The
head was from a Hulk figure and even the famous Superman hair
swirl was not spared from the original. The finished result
was a character that had all the brawn of Bizarro, but also
conveyed the numbskull he's famous for - a torn cape, sleeves
too short, holes in his boot. The bling was my way of updating
his fashion sense and I included a package with artwork. Listened
to a lot of rockabilly music while making the figure, and have
named this the Rockabilly variant. Certainly won't be the last
Bizarro I make. Was fun.
Phantom Zone Criminals
Had it not been for the cultural naivity of the 80's, most
certainly these infamous three would've continued to rule without
exhaust. Surely, you can't have me believe that a General would
fall for such a sophomore prank by the Big Blue. What were the
producers thinking?
Obviously, these items are strictly for collectors. They must
be not in production for a reason, right? But if they did come
out with them, I'd buy two Ursas.
For General Zod I used a Ra's Al Ghul figure and the other two
are from WWE. Because their appearance is so generic, basically
any figure fitting the bill would do. Having the display base
completed the set.
