Super-poseable
Batman
Inspired
by Spidey2007's Super-poseable Batman, I decided to give his recipe a
shot myself. Batman uses a Marvel Legends BULLSEYE figure as a base. I
removed the arms and shins, and spliced in parts from the Total Control
Batman figure. This is where the headsculpt comes from as well. To make
the chest armor, I removed the belt from the "snap-on" armor
that comes with the Ninja Bruce Wayne Batman Begins figure. Additional
details were sculpted using Magic Sculpt. A 20" wide cloth cape was
glued under the cowl and completes the ensemble.

Ra's Al
Ghul (Ken Wantanabe)
To make the
Ra's Al Ghul figure, I took a Lord of the Rings Saruman figure and mixed
it with elements from the Mattel Total Control Ra's Al Ghul action figure.
The surface was reworked with Magic Sculpt and adorned with a ton of little
odds and ends tidbits I felt appropriate.

Bruce
Wayne (Christian Bale)
The Christian
Bale Bruce Wayne custom uses a “suit jacket” Wesley figure
from the Buffy/Angel figure line. The original jacket was removed and
trimmed for a more accurate fit. Costume details were added with Magic
Sculpt and Kneadatite. The headsculpt is reworked casting of the much
larger American Psycho PATRICK BATEMAN figure, shrunken down with Hydro-Shrink
to the appropriate scale.

Sgt. James
Gordon
James Gordon
is a mix of a DC Direct HUSH Gordon figure with arms from some random
Cowboy figure I found at KB. The headsculpt is reworked from a McFarlane
Revolver Ocelet figure while the glasses are taken from an Austin Powers
figure. The inner jacket comes from a Marvel Legends Professor X.

The
Scarecrow
For my Scarecrow
custom, I decided to use a Yu Yu Hakusho Ghost Files Sakyo figure as a
base. Though it's a quirky anime figure, it works really well with the
look and style of most DC Direct figures. The thigh and mid-torso joints
were glued in place and sealed over with Magic Sculpt. Other than that,
there really isn't much surface work.
The headsculpt
is where I had the most fun, obviously. At this point, it's almost entirely
an original sculpt, made from Kneadatite and plastic styrene (with little
bits of thread here and there worked into the sculpt). Normally I avoid
using Kneadatite for sculpting finer details, but in the case it actually
worked to my advantage. I skipped wearing my usual latex gloves while
sculpting, so my fingerprints transferred all about the sculpt. This helps
to simulate the burlap texture of Dr. Jonathan Crane's mask. The paint
is what helps bring it all to life.

Fear-Gas
Batman
Special thanks
to Tommy (aka therewasme) for the inspiration and reference for this project!
The Fear-Gas
Batman is a reworked Lord of the Rings NEWBORN LURTZ action figure. The
body has been reworked to incorporate elements from the Ninja Gear Bruce
Wayne Batman Begins figure along with a cape from a Lord of the Rings
Ceremonial Eomer. The rest of the details were created using Magic Sculpt.

Victor
Zsasz
Victor Zsasz
uses a Spike figure from the Buffy/Angel action figure line. Spike's hair
was sanded down and the entire figure was reworked with Magic Sculpt to
create to appropriate details. The likeness to actor Tim Booth is uncanny!

Final
Duel Ra's Al Ghul (Liam Neeson)
As with my
Bruce Wayne custom, the Final Duel Ra's Al Ghul uses a suited Wesley figure
from the Angel/Buffy figure line. The scarf was created with black vinyl
while the cane is modified from a leftover Saruman staff. Most of the
work went into the headsculpt, which is a modified Jonathan Archer ENTERPRISE
piece. Its not the most accurate likeness, but I might revisit this project
at some point to rework it.

Arkham
Escape Scarecrow
Although
I don't normally like using super-articulated bases figures for my customs,
I felt that the Scarecrow might really benefit from having some extra
posing options. I began by taking a Marvel Legends Professor X figure
and adding a distress cloak from a Lord of the Rings Saruman figure. The
forearms came from a random "Warriors of Virture" figure I bought
back in the day. Finally, the boots are taken from a wrestling figure
I had lying about.

Fear-Gas
Scarecrow
The horse?
Why, it's taken from a Lord of the Rings Black Rider, of course! Granted,
it's not 100% movie accuarate, but far be it for me to argue with a flame-breathing
horse...
