DCU Rogues :
Amazo
Black Adam
Amazo Remind me never
to paint stripes again. The figure you see here was
made using a Savage Land Joseph with a Super Shooters Colossus
head. The chin and head were sanded to de-emphasize
the angularity of the original sculpt. All sculpting
was done with Magic Sculpt. The “A” on his
belt was cut from styrene and glued to his elastic belt. His
star necklace was also cut from styrene. Gold elastic
was used for the magic lasso. I don’t know why
I did this figure… I guess taking a shot at making
the details just appealed to me.
Black Adam: I joined the torso and
arms from a Spider-man Daredevil figure to the legs of a Bishop
figure. The head is a cast of a Space Riders Xavier
with Magic Sculp used for the hair and epoxy to enhance the
ears. The boots and bracers are magic sculp and the
belt is elastic. For some reason I dropped this one
while painting him and his neck peg snapped off. Apparently
it was mostly “air bubble” from when I casted
it. Anyway… in lieu of cracking an almost finished
custom open again, I decided to fix it with a snap joint. I
haven’t done too much of that since I discovered two
part epoxy clays, but I didn’t want to crack him open
again, so what else could I do?
Chronos
Deathstroke
Chronos: Remind me never
to paint stripes again. Chronos was put together using
the head from an Iceman figure with some magic sculpt added
to make it fit snugly into the torso of Sunspot. The
legs came from a Pyro figure… the boots were perfect
for Chronos. The cape is of course hand sewn with wire
in the hems. The chest icon and clock hands were created
in CAD and glued in place. I can’t decide which
was harder; getting his leg stripes to look right or painting
the arrows on his forearms. In the end… I’m
pretty pleased with this one.
Deathstroke: How could I do
a bunch of DC villains and not do Deathstroke? The answer
is… I couldn’t. Deathstroke here is a combination
of Gambits. The legs are from a light up Gambit, while
the torso and arms are from a Battle Blasters Gambit. The
head is from a Bug Busters Spider-man with a new peg and neck
sculpted from epoxy putty. His boots were sculpted from
magic sculpt as was his “armor”. His weapons
came from… what I refer to as my “Armory”… basically
its just a plastic bin that collects weapons from all my fodder
(I’m sure most customizers know what I’m talking
about here). The belt and pouches are elastic and his “tails” were
hand sewn and glued to the back of his head.
Dr Destiny
Dr Destiny
Dr Destiny: This one
was inspired by his appearance on the Justice League Unlimited
show. The head is a Red Skull and the torso and legs
are from a Black Tom figure. The arms came from a really
cheap action figure that my wife found at a KayBee outlet
(some $1.00 ninja figure… looks a lot like one of the
archangel figures). Anyway… I used plumbers putty
and magic sculp to create working joints at the arms, neck,
and waist. The cape and hood were hand sewn and the
belt is elastic with a styrene belt buckle. The bottom
of his shirt is fabric also that has been sewn to the belt. I’m
pretty happy with this one.
Giganta
Giganta
Giganta: I realized
about one month before the deadline for CC 13 that I had 6
customs of the Legion of Doom completed (in one form or another). I
was also close to completing two others (Brainiac and Grundy). At
that point I only had Grodd, Manta, Cheetah, Bizarro, and
Giganta left. I was going to rearrange my entire show
plan and finish the Legion of Doom. As it turned out… I
wasn’t liking how my Grundy and Brainiac were turning
out. And I wasn’t coming up with any quick fixes
either… they’re on the shelf waiting for inspiration
now.
Lex Luthor
Sinestro
Lex Luthor: This figure
was made from a Spider-man figure. The head is a cast
of the Space Riders Xavier and the left hand came from a Kane
figure. The arms came from a Quicksilver figure. I
created waist articulation for no other reason than to make
the figure a little different. The collar was made from
Magic Sculp and the shoulder straps and belt are elastic.
Sinestro: I knew I had to do a Sinestro
and since I liked the Animated version so much, I decided
to do it in the 5” Toy Biz scale. The head is
from an Iron Man from the Original Avengers Gift Pack. The
body is a heavily modified Ice Man II (the one from the invasion
series). I did a lot of dremelling, smoothing, and knocking
off of angles on this one. If somebody ever makes a
David Niven action figure in the five inch scale, I might
have to make a comic book accurate Sinestro… looks
like I’ll be waiting a long time for that.
The Toy Man: With everybody doing
the animated version of the Toy Man… I decided to do
an older version myself. Besides… Superfriends
was the cartoon I lived for when I was a kid. Toy Man
is basically a repaint of a Marvel’s Most Wanted X-Man. I
dremelled his hair and other details down, then I added the
necessary Toy Man details with magic sculp. His paddle
ball game was originally going to be the mirror for Mirror
Master, but it seemed a tad too big for that purpose. I
figured a villain like the Toy Man would have an oversized,
exploding Paddle Ball Game of Doom around. He ain’t
the sharpest tack in the board.
