Custom Recipes:
Belts: Made from elastic bought at fine fabric stores everywhere.
A snap was sewn on to the elastic. The elastic was colored
with pens.
Paint: All figures were primed with
Krylon gray primer. Areas to be finished in bright colors
were then primed
again with
white primer. Acrylics were used and the figures sealed
with Dulcote. For shiny finishes, decoupage glue was
used as a sealer.
Batgirl: Whenever you have an extra Classic
X-Men Box set sitting around, take the Marvel Girl and turn
her into Batgirl. She’s the perfect base figure. The
cape is of course cloth, with all types of wire sewn in for
poseability. The cape took forever to make. I easily have more
than eight hours wrapped up in making that thing. After the
cape was completed, several details were filled and sanded
smooth and her bat ears were made from Magic Sculp. The belt
is colored elastic with a sculpey bat-symbol glued onto it.
Mary Marvel: This is the end result of the
figure I was working on in my “Creating Waist Articulation” article
posted over at the Raving Toy Maniac website. Cheap Rogue torso
and arms were joined to the head and legs of a Magik figure.
The skirt, belt and cape were all hand sewn and colored appropriately.
The hair is kneadatite. I was going to do the entire FKATJL
lineup for this con, but alas time did not permit.
Spider-Boy: I’m not sure if I saw somebody
else do a version of this figure or not. Anyway, Superboy from
Superman line was the base figure. This is basically just a
repainted figure. Not much to talk about.
