Custom Recipes:
Normally I don’t like block figures very
much, but the Star Trek Minimates have grown on me,
and I’m looking forward to the Palisades X-Files line.
The Riddick, Monica Reyes, and Jose Chung figures
were more of an exercise in seeing what I could do
with some cheap Minimates that I found more than
anything else. All three of these figures are
essentially repaints of Dark Angel Minimates, which is
about as close as you can get to a generic figure in
the Minimates world. I can see now how tough the
faces are to get right on these type of figures. I
liked making the packaging for these figures almost as
much as I liked making the figures themselves. I used
Pactra acrylic enamels on these, and they worked
great.
The Battle-Damaged Captain Archer was also an exercise
in seeing what I could do with a clearance priced
figure. Again, it is just a repaint. It goes along
nicely with the Battle-Damaged Enterprise, which is a
real ship Art Asylum put out as an exclusive with an
internet toy retailer. Art Asylum’s Star Trek
figures are among the best Trek figures ever produced,
and I’m a big fan of them.
