Legion: Introduction
Just because every Custom Con should have a Legion section,
here is the continuation of my Legion that debuted at Custom
Con 9. A quick review: The Legion is a futuristic team of
super powered teenagers that have banded together to protect
the United Planets from villainous threats.
Chuck: Pre-boot Chuck
Taine was Bouncing Boy. His super power was making his rubbery
body… I don’t know… um,
super round I guess, and bouncing. This allowed the writers
to explore feelings of worthlessness. Post-boot Chuck Taine
is ‘Legion Engineer’ and all-around good guy (until
Giffen writes him).
Condo: Condo Arlik aka Chemical King. Known ability is to
control the rates of chemical reactions. How he does this is
not for
me to reveal… chemistry was never my strong suit. I make
custom action figures. Since Condo hasn’t been rebooted
yet, I had a little lee way with his final appearance. I used
his basic pre-boot/post silver-age appearance only shinier,
and I of course got rid of the dopey collar thing.
Dev Em: Another long time Legion character
that has yet to be rebooted. He was in the try out issue but
in a non-speaking
capacity. Little is known about Dev Em by this customizer.
I don’t think he’s ever been an official Legionnaire,
but I think he destroyed the moon once and he’s also
been a secret agent. I think he came from Daxam which is the
planet where everybody has Superman type powers.
Impulse: What’s
a Legion figure collection without Impulse? The Legion has
had several run-ins with this speedster, and
for good reason too. He’s never been an official member
but he is Xs’s cousin and he originally hails from The
Legion’s time period.
Jeckie: Here you see Jeckie/Princess
Projectra as she first appeared in the Post-boot. Unfortunately
this likeness turned
out to be an illusion when it was revealed that she was actually
a snake; a big, royal snake with raccoons for servants. I view
this figure as a reminder of what could have been.
Laurel Kent:
Here’s another Legion member that has yet
to be rebooted. I don’t think she ever made it into The
Legion, but she was training to be a Legionnaire at one point.
There was some speculation that she was a descendant of Superman,
but it turned out that she was… (spoiler ahead; don’t
read if you don’t want to know) … in fact, one
of the Manhunter robots. Who shot Laurel Kent? Really now.
Lester:
The Legion fans are known for developing fierce fondness’s
for obscure characters. Lester Spiffany is one of those characters.
Let’s see… Lester was a spoiled rich boy with no
super powers other than wealth. With this in mind he tried
to buy his way into Legion membership. In a move that most
likely would not occur today, the Legion denied his membership
based on the premise that wealth was indeed not a superpower.
This figure was inspired by the drawings of Dean Lee who is
a fellow Legion aficionado like myself and a talented artist
in his own right.
Monstress: Poor, poor Candi Pyponte-Le Parc.
Monstress for short. Think of her as a female Hulk with a bubbly,
cheerful
outlook on life. Not too many fans had warm feelings toward
Monstress. And when they actually started to make her character
real and likable, they killed her off. Oh well…
Valor:
Here you see M’onel in his first appearance guise;
Valor.
White Witch: Pretty short appearance schedule
for Mysa in the reboot Legion so far. She was rebooted as the
daughter
of Mordru.
I don’t have a problem with this, but I know some Legion
fans liked her being Nura’s sister. Well at least she’s
not a Snake.
Minesurfer: Everybody
should allow themselves a moment of vanity. This is a custom
based on my online persona
Minesurfer. It
just so happens that this is what I look like in real life
too. I’m also sure that I would be in The Legion too,
if I were alive in a thousand years that is.
Quislet: What’s
a Quislet? Quislet is part of my no Legionnaire left behind
outreach program. It is my intention to make a
figure of every sentient that has ever officially been a Legionnaire.
No matter how obscure. It’s probably not an attainable
goal, but here’s Quislet.
Tellus: Another member of the
outreach program. Tellus and Quislet were characters created
by Steve Lightle (a most excellent
artist) in an attempt to make The Legion look a little more
alien, and less humanoid.
